Do you know why pencils are painted yellow? Have you heard of a Hornbook or Battledore? Do you know why the letter Z is at the end of the alphabet?
As part of its ongoing mission to preserve, restore, promote and develop the historical assets of our city, the Attleboro Historic Preservation Society will present ‘Olde Time Schools’ by Dave Downs. Mr. Downs, the recipient of the “Best Exhibitor Award” at The New England History Festival, will discuss the history of education from the colonial period through the 19th century with an emphasis on the One Room Schoolhouse.
This program will be presented at the monthly meeting of the Attleboro Historic Preservation Society at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2010. It will be held at the Attleboro Industrial Museum at 42 Union Street, Attleboro, MA. The public is invited to attend.

Friday Evening, October 1, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. ANTIQUE AND COLLECTIBLE APPRAISER
will offer a verbal appraisal for your family treasures for a donation of $3.00 for one item or
$5.00 for two (limit 4 items) Photographs of larger items are encouraged. Fried fish
sandwiches, French fries and drinks will be served up for a quick dinner.
Saturday, October 2nd, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Lots to look at and great gifts for Christmas giving, featuring Grandma’s attic, a children’s
games area, knitting and sewing items, baked goods, mixes in a jar, and home made chocolates,
gift baskets all ready for giving and a farmer’s market.
Clamcakes and chowder and hot dogs will begin serving at 10 a.m. along with other goodies
for lunch.

The Triboro Community Lions are hosting a Vision Walk on Saturday October 9th on
the Attleboro Balfour Riverwalk Park. Registration is at 8:00 am, and the walk
is 9:00am-11:00. This is a family event, and proceeds go towards the Carroll
Center for the Blind. Ages 5 and over will cost $15 to participate. It will be a
blindfolded walk. Participants will be paired with someone who is blindfolded.
