Live Football Returns to Channel 15

ATTLEBORO, MA – November 20, 2009; DoubleACS, Attleboro’s public access corporation announces today the return of live high school football on channel 15 this Thanksgiving with the annual matchup between Attleboro and North Attleboro starting at 10am. Cable subscribers in Attleboro will enjoy live audio play-by-play from Sports Producer Josh Perry while watching a virtual real-time scoreboard. Using state-of-the-art wireless technology, DoubleACS will transmit over a high speed digital link back to the Union Street studio. This technology fills a void that has existed in the area for more than a decade.

Cable subscribers got their first glimpse of the new technology in action during a trial run two weeks ago when DoubleACS made an unannounced schedule change in their Friday night lineup and carried Attleboro’s win over Dartmouth live. “We needed to exercise the system to make sure it was ready for prime-time,” says Operations Manager, James Jones. The system proved ready and viewers were excited. “The feedback we received over the next couple of days was incredible. It felt like we couldn’t answer the phone, read an email, or interact with people without them mentioning how exciting it was to watch the game live.”

Acquiring the capability of transmitting a signal anywhere has been a top priority of President and CEO, Edward Stanton. “We have evaluated wireless transmission every year but it has always proved to be cost prohibitive” says Stanton. “When we came across this new technology a few months ago we had a feeling that this was the year”. While Stanton is excited about the technology, he is quick to point out that the technology has a much more far reaching effect to the organization as well as the residents. “Not only do we have the capability to present parades and sporting events live, but more importantly, we are now able to assist city officials and provide “on the scene” information reporting in the event of flooding, snow, fire or any other such emergency.”

Attleboro Access Cable System is a 501(c)(3) corporation formed in cooperation with Comcast, Inc. and in agreement with the City of Attleboro to provide cable viewers with programs reflecting the activities, concerns, and interests of the residents of Attleboro.
